Our scientific and research operations assist the process of opening up the Polish economy The chief mission of the Institute for Market, Consumption and Business Cycles Research scientific work is to analyse and forecast foreign economic relations. Much of our research work is focused on the transformation process and the accompanying increase in Poland's commitment to the international economic relations. Research is focused on the following chief issues: - current status and changes in the world economic trends, along with implications for the national economy of Poland,
- shaping the Polish economy's international competitive position and its competitive capacity,
- development of integration processes, with a particular attention paid to the issues that relate to intensifying Poland's external economic links with the European Union's Member States, the EFTA Member States, CEFTA countries and other countries of Central and Eastern Europe,
- evolution of external economic impact, along with directions and instruments of Poland's foreign economic policy including, in particular, its trade policy,
- the course taken by the transformation processes in Poland as well as in other Central and Eastern European countries, with a particular attention paid to the processes of privatisation and foreign direct investment inflows,
- broadening the scope of the zloty's convertibility and shaping its exchange rate relative to domestic prices and costs,
- Poland's participation in international economic institutions and organisations,
- research on domestic and foreign economic trends by means of composite indicators and forecasting models,
- regular monitoring of the Polish export sector's economic and financial situation,
- analysis of the position of small and medium-sized enterprises in Polish foreign trade.
The Institute's scientific and research operations are closely related to the economic practice, thanks to which it has become one of the most influential opinion-shaping centres. Apart from reports and surveys carried out for the central-level economic authorities, the Institute also performs such services as market, financial and economic analyses. It is also an initiator and organiser of domestic and international seminars and conferences that serve as a forum for exchange of ideas between scientists, businessmen and government administration representatives.
