The Institute for Market, Consumption and Business Cycles Research presents, for public debate, a new edition of the report on Poland's economy and foreign trade. The report has been published, with certain modifications, since 1971. This year's edition complements and elaborates on the issues discussed in the Institute's report on the "Economic Policy of Poland in the Integrating Europe in 2008-2009", presented at the end of June 2009.

In the descriptive and diagnostic part, the report mostly refers to the year 2008. The first half of 2008 saw a continuation of buoyant economic growth. In the second semester, the global financial crisis triggered an unprecedented depreciation of the zloty and a collapse of growth rates in the real sector. Faced with rapidly deteriorating external economic conditions, Poland's economic policy was relatively passive, letting things take their course. In the prognostic part, the report describes the effects of the global crisis and of uncoordinated internal policy, as well as indicating that 2010 rather than 2009 will be the most difficult year for the Polish economy.
